Club Extrasback to Main Club pageKings of JazzA rare opportunity to see these musicians performing together in the Midlands. Please note this session will be £8 entry, still includes free raffle.
PETE TOWNDROW – trumpet, makes a rare visit to a Midlands jazz club. Pete versatility has seen him in demand to play with many top bands. Notably he was a member of the Vic Lewis Band playing that ‘Kenton’ stuff and is regular with the Magna Jazz Band as well leading his own band Tobasco Jazz. BRIAN WHITE – clarinet, leader of the Magna Jazz Band in London since the mid-'50s, Brian is a fine clarinettist who (along with trumpeter Alan Gresty) in the Gresty White Band pay tribute to Muggsy Spanier. TONY PITT – banjo, is one of the finest exponents of banjo and guitar and has lengthy spells with all the top jazz bands including Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk, Terry Lightfoot and Alan Elsdon as well as countless TV and radio sessions. He has recently filled the banjo chair with Phil Mason’s New Orleans Allstars. VIC PITT – bass, Tony’s brother, has recently retired from touring with the Chris Barber Band after nearly 30 years! He was a member of Kenny Ball’s Jazzmen for 18 years before joining the Barber band. Like Tony he has an extensive musical pedigree having performed and recorded with the ‘who’s who of jazz’. Requests for his rendition of ‘Big Noise from Winnetka’ should be written on the back of a £20 note and handed to the drummer! GRAHAM SMITH – drums, is delighted to be again invited to be among and supporting such wonderful musicians for these special sessions by the band. Fame at last – local boy hits the big time! |
