Gary Wood’s Swing Band
Gary Wood – trumpet & vocals
Dan Foster – saxophones & flute
Roger Evan – keyboard
Chris Green – bass
Ronnie Fenn – drums
Another one of those sessions that you enjoy so much you wish it could last longer!
Gary brought his Swing Band to the Club for the first time and the session blew the audience away. All first class musicians, highly entertaining with a varied repertoire and humour and fun. Have never heard our audience sing so well as they did last night!
From Louis Prima’s ‘Banana Split for My Baby’, Moonlight in Vermont, Duke Elkington’s ‘In a Sentimental Mood’ with lovely baritone sax from Dan to ‘Come Fly with Me’ (Dan on flute), ‘On Green Dolphin Street’ to ‘Mambo Italiano’ with the Bare Necessities & King of the Swingers thrown in and featuring Ronnie Fenn.
Another highlight was the keyboard feature by Roger ‘I wish I Knew How it Would Feel to be Free’ – brilliant.
The above gives a taste of the eclectic mix of tunes and the versatility of the band that had the audience bopping in their seats.
The last number was Mack the Knife but we were treated to an en core and sent home with the melody of Wonderful World still ringing in our ears.
Many thanks guys
